Some Definitions for Probability (Part 2)

Independent Event- the outcome of one event has no effect on the outcome of another event
eg. flipping coin
     rolling a die
Sample Space- all possible outcomes of an experiment
eg. heads of tails (coin)
     1,2,3,4,5,6 (die)
Organize sample space using a chart of a tree diagram

Random- an event in which every outcome has an equal chance of occurring
eg. flipping a coin, rolling a standard die, or draw a card from a standard deck of cards

Theoretical Probability-the expected probability of an event occurring.
Experimental Probability-the probability of an event occurring based on experiment results

Some Definitions for Probability (Part 1)

Probability- Likelihood or chance of an event occuring
We determine probability by making a fraction
favourable outcomes (over) possible outcomes
eg. heads (over) heads or tails
Probability can be expressed (said or written) using fractions, ratios, or percents
1(over)2, 1:2 or 50%
Outcome- One possible result of a probability experiment
Favourable Outcome- a successful result in a probability experiment
p(outcome) is short for saying probability of something happening
eg. p(5) when rolling a die

Outlier

Outlier- a value that is much larger or smaller than the other data values
the data set may have more than 1 outlier or 0 outliers
outliers for 1,67,68,67,64,65,100 are 1 and 100

Range

(Please go to my other post to see the rules about data sets)
Range- the positive difference the largest and smallest values in a data set
range of 4,8,5,6,9,1,3,5,8,6 is
             1,3,4,5,5,6,6,8,8,9
is 9-1= 8

Measures of Central Tendency (Median, Mode & Mean)

a value that represents the centre of a data set can be the mean, median or mode
data set is a group of numbers that you must arrange in order from least to greatest
eg. 2,3.4,5,6,5,4,5,3,4,5,6,7,5,3,4,3
      2,3,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,5,5,5,5,5,6,6,7

Median- the middle number in a set of data after the data has been arranged in order
median of 2,5,6,8,9 is
median of 1,3,6,8,9,10 is 7

Mode- the most frequently occuring number in a set of data
mode and most both have 4 letters (a way to remember what mode means)
mode of 3,5,7,7,9 is 7
mode of 2,2,4,6,6,8,11 is 2 and 6

Mean- a measure of central tendency
the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in a set
mean of 6,4,8
add up all the numbers and divide the result by how many numbers there are
6+4+8=18
18(divided by)3=6
therefore the mean is 6

9. 50x40

50x40
5x4=20
2000

I multiplied 5x4 got 20. Then I added the left over 0s to the end 20 and got 2 000.

2. 56-7

56-7
56-7=49

I just simply subtracted 7 from 56 and got 49.

4. 35 000+6 000

35 000+6 000
5 000+6 000=11 000
30 000+11 000

I added 5 000 and 6 000, got 11 000. Then I added 11000 to 30 000 and got 41 000.

6. 40x90

40x90
4x9=36
3600

I multiplied 4 and 9, got 36. Then I added the left over 0s to the end of 36 and got 3600.

3290+90

3290+90
290+90=380
3000+380+3380

I added 290 and 90, got 380. Then I added the 380 to 3000 and got 3380.

Divisibility Rules

1-All whole numbers are divisible by 1

2-All even numbers are divisible by 2 (Numbers that end in 0,2,4,6, and 8)

3-Find the sum of the whole number, and see it is divisible by 3

4-If it is divisible by 2 twice then it is divisible by 4

5-All whole numbers that end in 5 or 0 are divisible by 5

6-If the number is divisible by 2 and 3 then it is divisible by 6

7-Use a calculator

8-If it is divisible by 2 thrice then it is divisible by 8

9-Get the sum of the whole number, and see if it is divisible by 9

10-All whole numbers that end in 0 are divisible by 10

How to do #23 in the number of the day booklet

23. Write the answer to number 21 as a decimal

All you are doing is changing a proper fraction to a decimal

Decimals are always over 1

Whatever you do to the top number you have to do to the bottom number
Example if your proper fraction was one half:
