Fractions

FRACTIONS. BOOY WHEN I SEE YOU I'LL PUT YOUR FACE INTO FRACTIONS. Just kidding
Fractions are ways of saying parts of a thing in a "mathy" way.
There are I think 3 types of fractions

Proper Fraction. 1/3 <---- When the numerator is SMALLER than than the denominator.

Improper Fraction. 3/2 <---- When the numerator is BIGGER than the denominator

Mixed Fraction. 3 1/2 <---- When there is a whole number beside the fraction and the fraction is still proper.

These are the three types of fractions that you use in math right now. I hope you learned more about fractions and this helped you.

What is the Median?

WHAT IS THE MEDIAN?! YOUR SITTING THERE LIKE OHH MY GOSH WHAT IS THIS?!
Well I'm here. A median is a measure of central tendency. A median is the middle number, it's like this.
Here's a set of data. 2,3,5,6,7,8. 5 & 6. what's between 5& 6 ? 5.5. that's the median. So you know what a median is now? I saw someone post Measures Of Central Tendency already so you could look at theirs.

PROBABILITY

WHAT IS PROBABILITY!? Probability means a chance of an even occurring like this.
Flipping a coin. 2 possibilities, heads or tails.
It's favourable over possible.
Favourable means the event you expect to happen and possible is that it could happen too but you don't expect it. Let's say you call heads when you flip a coin and it lands on tails, heads is what you want to happen but tails was a possible outcome also. so if you called heads the fraction would be 1/2 same thing with tails.
So I hope you learn more about probability.

How to BEDMAS.

HOW TO DO BEDMAS?! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GUYS FORGOT THIS! Okay so. First of all you need to know what bedmas means.
B:BRACKETS
E:EXPONENTS
D:DIVIDE                   * DO IT IN THAT ORDER. OR ELSE YOUR ANSWER IS WRONG
M:MULTIPLY^^^Left to right
A:ADD
S:SUBTRACT^^^Left to right

here's a question that you can try: 4x6+(12-4)-16 =? Just follow BEDMAS. comment your answer.

INTEGERS

YO! What's an Integer you say?! HUH?! It's a number that has two ways of showing it.
Negative: eg. (-3) <---- Negative is brackets with a subtract sign on the left. The reason why we use brackets is because to not confuse you to do stupid stuff kind of like Nathaniel. haha, just kidding Nathaniel, your cool man your cool. Anyways what do you think looks more understandable?
A: 4+-4=?
B:4:(-4)=?
If you picked "B" your correct.
Also, the other way of showing an integer is positive. You don't have to put brackets like negative so you could just write like this "14" instead of (+14) alright? So I hope you learned about integers and you guys can help yourselves with the exams.

Adding Fractions with Like Denominators

Example!
1/5 + 4/5
Look at the denominator first, if the denominator is the same you just have to add the numerator.
1/5 + 4/5 = 5/5 or 1.

Multiples

Multiple - the product of any given number and natural numbers like 1,2,3.
example: multiples of 10 are: 10,20,30,40,50,60

The first five multiples of each number are..

2 - 2,4,6,8,10
3 - 3,6,9,12,15
4 - 4,8,12,16,20
5 - 5,10,15,20,25

5 Ways that YOU can represent 1/2.

1. 1/2 <---- Fractions!
2. 0.5 <---- Decimals!
3. 50% <---- Percentage!
4. 1:2 <---- Something..
5. [1][ ] <---- Pictures!

Divisible Rule for 7.

No rule for 7. It may be possible but we haven't found it yet.
If you do happen to find one then give it to Mr.Isfeld so he can publish it in public and he will get rich.

Divisible Rule for 4.

A number that can be divisible by is 8 for an example.
The rule for 4 is if you can divide the number by 2 without having a remainder.

2 divided by 4 = 2 <--- No remainder.

Adding Fractions!

Having trouble adding fractions?
This could help you!
Eg.
2\4 + 3\4 = 5\4 = 1 1\4

If the denominator is the same then you just add the top part and you don't need to find the lowest common denominator.

Divisibility Rule for the #4

The rule for four is when you can divide the number by 2 and have no remainder.
For eg.

1234 divided by 2 = 617 <---- No remainder.

1234567 divided by 2 = 617283.5 <----- Remainder.

Textbook Pages 214-216 #9

9.What is the sum of each fraction statement? Write each answer in LOWEST terms.

a)1/6 + 1/6 = 2/6 or 1/3
In the answer is 2/6 but it can be simplified (lowest term)

b)1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 or 1/2
This answer can also be simplified

c)3/5 + 1/5 = 4/5
In this answer, I believe that this can't be simplified

d)5/12 + 1/12 = 6/12 or 1/2
This can be simplified because 6+6=12 2 halves.

e)3/10 + 7/10 = 10/10 or 1/1 or 1 whole
This too can be simplified

f)2/9 + 1/9 = 3/9 or 1/3
This can be simplified.

*REMEMBER* When adding fractions, do not add up the denominator just the numerator.

How to do #21 In Your Number of the Day Book.





Goal: Use any two digits to make a PROPER fraction.

There are two numbers in a fraction, the top # is called the NUMERATOR and the one at the bottom is called the DENOMINATOR.

To make a proper fraction, you must make the numerator smaller than the denominator.

The image on the left displays an example of how a proper fraction should look like.

The image on the right displays MIXED and Improper. Those 2 fractions on the image at the right is NOT a proper fraction.
