Range And Outlier

Range- the positive difference between the largest & smallest values in a Data set.

example-
4 6 9 8 4 4 7 8
4 4 4 6 7 8 8 9
9-4= 5 ------ so the range is 5

Outlier- a value that is much longer or smaller than the other data values. The data set may have more than 1 outliers, or none at all.

example-
1 5 9 7 3 8 43
1 3 5 7 8 9 43 ----- the odd one out is 43, so the outlier is 43

Mean, Median and Mode

Measures of central tendency- A value that represents the centre of the data set (Mean, Median or Mode)
Data set is a group of numbers that you must arrange in order least to greatest.

example-
2 8 4 8 6 5 1 1 6 4 9
1 1 2 4 4 5 6 6 8 8 9

Mean- a measure of central tendency; the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in the set.

example-
 3 4 9 8
3+4+9+8=24
24 divided by 4 is..
6 --- So that means 6 is the mean.

Median- The middle number in a set of data after the data has been arranged in order.


example-
9 8 5 2 3
2 3 5 8 9 ----in this the middle is 5. so the median would be 5

3 6 7 8 9 5 7 9
3 5 6 6 7 7 8 9 ---- in this there are 2 middles... or none. So in this case 6 and 7 are in the middle so then the median would be 6.5

Mode- the most frequently occurring number in a Data set.


example-

3 4 5 6 8 8 8 9 ----- the number that appears most is 8... so then the mode is 8

New Circle Information

Circle Graphs (pi charts)- a graph made of a circle; a graph that represents data using sections of a circle.

Sector- is a section of a circle made up of 2 radii and an arc joining them.

EXAMPLE:















What percentage is the missing sector? 7%









TRY: 1000 kids were asked what type of music they like. Here's the result. How many kids like country and folk music?

Circles

Diameter is the distance across a circle through its centre

Some Examples:














Radius (radii is the plural) is the distance from the centre of a circle to its outer edge

Some Examples:















We can do the formula 2R=D this means that 2 radii are needed to make a diameter of a circle.
1/2 x D = R
D/2 = R

Adding Mixed Numbers With Unlike Denominators

Here's a QUESTION FOR EXAMPLE:

6 3/8 + 7 3/16

STEP 1:
Look for the L.C.M (lowest common multiple) 8-8, 16-------16-16

STEP 2:
Make equivalent with this... 3/8= 6/16---------3/16=3/16

STEP 3:
Deal with the FRACTIONS .....6/16 + 3/16 = 9/16

STEP 4:
Deal with the WHOLE NUMBERS 7+6=14

STEP 5:
Combine! 14 9/16

GET IT???!!!

Adding Mixed Numbers With Like Denominators

If You Forgot What's a Mixed Number : A mixed number is made up of a whole number and a fraction Such as : 6 1/2 This is NOT mixed number 6 9/3

Here's a QUESTION FOR EXAMPLE: 9 3/6 + 3 1/6=?

STEP 1:
Deal with the FRACTION THAT ALREADY HAVE COMMON DENOMINATORS!! Simplify too!!
3/6+1/6= 4/6= 2/3


STEP 2 : Deal With the WHOLE NUMBERS


9+3=12



STEP 3 : Combine them together!!

12 2/3

Divisibility Rule For 5

5 is Divisible by any number that ends in a 0 or 5.
E.g. 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40.....And so on.

It's Not Divisible by 2, 9, 6, 3, 8.....!!!!!

Is This Divisible by 5?
265415

Yes!! Because it ends in a 5.....

How To Do #20 In The Number Of The Day Booklet

20. Write a fraction using the 1000s place as the denominator and the tenths place as as the numerator.

Take the number in the 1000s place and put it as the Denominator then take the number in the tenths place and put it as the numerator ( or do it the other way around).

example: 4567.892
8/4= Improper Fraction (Top is greater than the bottom)
8- Numerator: Top Number
4- Denominator: Bottom Number

Textbook # 9 Page 137-139

9. Write each repeating decimal number using bar notation



a) 0.4444444... = Put the bar notation on the 4 :..._
0.4

b) 0.2666666... = Put the bar notation on the 6 .... _
0.26

c) 0.1851851... = Put the bar notation on the 185 :...___
...........0.185

d) 1.0626262... = Put the bar notation on the 62 :....__
.....1.062

for A you only have to put the bar notation 4 because that was the only number that was repeating.

for B you have to do that because you only put the bar notation on the #'s that are repeating, because 2 never repeated so then you don't put the bar notation on 2 only on the 6.

for C you have to put the bar notation on 185 why? well because 185185... is repeating so since they all are repeating you have to put the bar notation on 185.

for D you have to put it on only 62 because the 0 isn't repeating and because both 6 and 2 are repeating so you have to put the bar notation on both of them.
