Measures of Central Tendency: Part 5

Outlier - a value that is much larger or smaller than than other data value.
-the data set may have more than 1 outlier or zero outliers.
Outliers for 1,67,68,67,64,65,100 are 1 and 100

I could not find a helpful video for this
Since I couldn't find a helpful video I have come up with a question you could do.
What is the outlier(s) for this data set 1,45,67,47,43,50?

Measures of Central Tendency: Part 4

Range- the positive difference between the largest and smallest values

Here is a video to help

Measures of Central Tendency: Part 3

Mean - a measure of Central Tendency
         - the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in the set.
mean of 6,4,8 is 6

find the mean

3,4,2,1,5,3
3+4+2+1+5+3=18
18¸6=3

Add up all the numbers and divide the result by how many numbers there are.

Measures of Central Tendency: Part 2

Mode - the most frequently occuring number in a data set.

This is how Mr. Isfeld remembers mode: Mode and Most have four letters and mode basically means the numbers that are seen the "most"

Here is a video that might help.

Measures of Central Tendency: Part 1

A value that represents the centre of a data set.

Can be the mean, median, or mode.

Data set is a group of numbers that you MUST arrange in order from least to greatest.

Median - the middle number in a set of data after the data has been arranged in order.
Median of 2,5,6,8,9 is 6
Median of 1,3,6,8,9,10 is seven because the pairs are 1&10 3&9 6&8 but there is no number left? thats when the seven comes in... 7 is in between 6&8 so.. that means that 7 is the median of this data set.

What are the different types of estimating???

Estimate- to approximate an answer, an educated guess, and use friendly numbers.
Under Estimate-the estimate that you are sure is less than the actual answer.
Over Estimate-the estimate that you are sure is larger than the actual answer.
Front-end Estimation-is always under estimating, use the greatest place value the numbers have in common.

What are Multiples???

Multiples
They are the product of any given number and natural number like: 1,2,3...

What is a Numerator???

A numerator is a number that is the top number of a fraction and it tells us how many parts of the whole we have or are dealing with.

What is an expression???

Expression- any single number or variable, or combination of operations(-,+,x,÷) involving numbers and variables.

What is a Variable???

Variable-A letter that represents an unknown number.    e.g. x,a,n

Divisibility! (If you missed the notes)

Divisible - when a number can be divided by another number, with no remainder.

Divisibility Rules...

Rule for 1
All whole numbers are divisible by 1
   e.g. 3÷1=3
   111÷1=111

Rule for 2
All even numbers are divisible by 2
Even numbers end in 2,4,6,8,0
Odd numbers end in 1,3,5,7,9

Rule for 3
The sum of the digits is divisible by 3
   e.g.1+2+3+6=1+2=3
   3 is divisible by 3

Rule for 4
   4=2x2
All numbers that are divisible by 2 twice
   e.g. 16÷2=8
                  8÷2=4
Then 16 is divisible by 4

Rule for 5
All numbers  ending in 0 or 5
e.g. 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40

Rule for 6
If the number is divisible by 2 and 3, then it is divisible by 6.
    e.g. 2x3=6

Rule for 7
USE A CALCULATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you find a rule tell Mr. Isfeld and he will publish it ;D

Rule for 8
8=2x2x2
All numbers divisible by 2 three times
   e.g. 24÷2=12
                  12÷2=6
                          6÷2=3

Rule for 9
The sum of the digits is divisible by 9
    e.g. 1+8+9+7+2+3+6= 3+6 = 9
      9 is divisible by nine.

Rule for 10
All numbers that end in 0 are divisible by 10
    e.g. 10,20,30,40,50,60,70....etc.

Rule for 0
No number is divisible by zero
It is impossible

Here is a video to help you.

What are the TRANSFORMATIONS?

Transformation
  • Moves a shape
  • Moves a geometric figure
Translation
  • To slide along a straight line
Reflection
  • A mirror image
  • like flipping the image
  • mirror line or a line of reflection
  • line of symmetry
  • distance must be the same from the mirror line to each image.

Rotation
  • is a turn about a fixed point
  • point doesn't move
  • called the center of rotation or rotation point

What are factors?

A Common Factor - a number that two or more numbers are divisible by.
              e.g. 4 is a common factor of 8 and 12

A Factor - is a number that can go into another number with no remainder

                       12÷2=6
                12 is divisible by 2
                 2 is a factor of 12

The G.C.M. (Greatest Common Factor) - the number with the greatest value that two or more numbers are divisible by.
