Subtracting Mixed numbers with Unlike denominators

UNLIKE DENOMINATOR is a fraction with an unequal bottom number.

For example: 4 1/6 - 1 3/4=?

step 1: Deal with fractions use L.C.M.(lowest Common Multiple) to create common denominator.

6- 6,12,18,24,30
4- 4,8,12,16,20
The lowest common multiple of 4 and 6 is 12.

step 2: Make an equivalent fraction.

1/6= 2/12 3/4=9/12

You cannot subtract 2 and 9. So, I barrow from the whole numbers.

2/12 - 9/12= 12/12 + 2/12 - 9/12= 5/12

step 3: Deal with the whole numbers.

3-1=2

step 4: combine the fraction and the whole number.

answer: 2 5/12

Adding Mixed Numbers With Unlike Denominators

Here's a QUESTION FOR EXAMPLE:

6 3/8 + 7 3/16

STEP 1:
Look for the L.C.M (lowest common multiple) 8-8, 16-------16-16

STEP 2:
Make equivalent with this... 3/8= 6/16---------3/16=3/16

STEP 3:
Deal with the FRACTIONS .....6/16 + 3/16 = 9/16

STEP 4:
Deal with the WHOLE NUMBERS 7+6=14

STEP 5:
Combine! 14 9/16

Here's a QUESTION FOR EXAMPLE: 9 3/6 + 3 1/6=?

STEP 1:
Deal with the FRACTION THAT ALREADY HAVE COMMON DENOMINATORS!! Simplify too!!
3/6+1/6= 4/6= 2/3

STEP 2 : Deal With the WHOLE NUMBERS

9+3=12

STEP 3 : Combine them together!!

12 2/3
